Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM)

A scanning probe microscope is applied to study the surface properties of materials at the scale of micron to less than atomic dimensions. In the SPM system, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) techniques are available, so basic principles of these techniques will be explained in this workshop and the device will be described in practical terms.

·         Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) is a devise applied for the purpose of evaluating the structure and some properties of the surfaces of conductive materials, biodegradable materials that are partially conductive, and also thin non-conductive layers that are deposited on the conductive substrate layers in nanoscale range.

·         Atomic Force Microscope (AFM): It can generate an image of any type of surface and material, including biological, non-biological, organic, inorganic, conductive and non-metallic ones.

The device of chemical adsorption and desorption analysis and determination of specific surface area of materials (BET)

This method is one of the most widely used ones for determining the characteristics of nanostructured materials, including nanoporous (microporous or mesoporous) compounds, metallic  nanoparticles, nanosulphides, nanotubes, nanofibers, nanoadsorbents  and etc. The basic principles of this technique will be explained in this workshop and the device will be described in practical terms.
